Fastball revival continues with John Cho Cup slated for this weekend

PRINCE GEORGE – If you build it, they will come.

Such is the case with Spruce City Stadium and the revival around the park when it comes to fastball. The John Cho Cup returns to Spruce City Stadium this weekend and shows some early signs of significant growth from last year.

At the 2021 tournament, there were eight teams involved. However, in 2022, there are 20 teams in town, including the Team BC U21 team, as well as the Grande Prairie Pirates. The Pirates just finished a tournament in Ontario in second place amongst some of the best teams across North America, and enter the tournament ranked as the 7th best team in all of North America.

There will also be some international representation that this year’s tournament. Argentinian pitcher Marcelo Martinez is suiting up for the Aiken Lake Silvertips. Martinez spent time on Argentina’s U18 team at the World Championships.

The tournament runs from Friday, July 1 to Sunday, July 3.

Admission is $10 at the gates. Children under 12, and elders, get in for free.
