PRINCE GEORGE- The Alzheimers Society of British Columbia is hosting a webinar tailored explicitly toward those who live with dementia and depend on public transit as their primary source of transportation.

“It is going to be looking at public transit from a very much dementia-friendly lens,” said Lori Kelly of the Alzheimer Society. “Many different transit systems are looking at ways to become more dementia-friendly.”

Prince George Transit is a big believer in transit education and has already taken steps to make travel easier for those with dementia.

These kinds of webinars are a fantastic tool to help folks get educated and realize the transit is actually fairly easy to use,” says Michael Coulson of Prince George Transit. “Aboard the bus, we have transit information available through screens at the front of the bus that will tell you each of the stops you go along the way and announcements that are made for every stop.”

The Alzheimers Society not only hopes to give tips to those with dementia but educate everyone on how to help others navigate public transit.

“Dementia symptoms come and go. Good days, bad days. Good moments, bad moments. So, just as you would with anyone simply asking, you look like you’re a bit lost. Is there something I can help with? It is just a wonderful way to reach out,” said Kelly.
