PRINCE GEORGE—According to a 2016 study, nearly 75 per cent of Canadians require vision correction. Of that number 55 per cent wear eyeglasses.

You see them every day. Eyeglasses are everywhere and whether they are a fashion statement or just to fix your vision you want knowledgeable staff to help you.

“It’s not just about the eye exam or the prescription itself per se. You want to make sure the health of your eyes is good. You don’t wear anything more than you wear your glasses. You wear your glasses every day. For most people, they depend on them every day. So it’s good to bring them in every once in a while and have them checked out to make sure everything is still aligned properly,” said Yvonne Ryder, Owner of Gurney House of Vision.

“So we offer etching of lenses in-store here so you don’t have to be without your frame. We do repairs. We also have two doctors now that offer eye exams three days a week, repairs and just full service help people pick up their frames and lenses, too,” said Ryder.

And they do their part to help out in the community too.

“We just recently helped out with the Spirit Days, which was a great experience for us all. We’ve also donated to the golf tournament that’s coming up for the Spirit of the North Health Care Foundation, the Cougars’ summer golf game there. We also support the Rainbows program, which is great support for children and youth. Cancer Society is another one and we’ve often just had people that will come in for certain donations for EMS, sports, stuff like that,” said Ryder.

Even though owning a business is not always easy.

“It’s been a challenge and a great experience for me. We have a great team down here and we’re just happy to be able to provide a good service for everybody and be part of the community,” said Ryder.

It has been rewarding.

“We’re locally owned and operated. We’re all really dedicated to helping our clients find the best possible solution for them for their eyewear needs. And we’re here for the whole family,” said Ryder.
