PRINCE GEORGE—A break-in at a scout camp has left thousands of dollars in damages for the nonprofit to try and recoup.

The scouts discovered the break-in when they went to use the facility over the long weekend. Upon arriving they discovered a glass door was broken and their items were thrown about the cabin.

Bella, a 14-year-old scout who was part of the group that initially found that the camp had been broken into said “I was scared when I saw the broken door. I didn’t understand why they broke into our cabin, essentially into our second home. I don’t understand why someone would steal from us.”

Several items were stolen from the cabin on Pitoney Lake including camping chairs, stoves lanterns and first aid supplies. The theft and damage to the property is expected to cost the group up to $3,000.

“It’s hard to find the words to describe how frustrating and disappointing this is. The kids work so hard to maintain the camp, and this theft and vandalism hurts them most of all,” said Tony Parent, one of the head leaders of the group and the camp’s primary caretaker. “For many of our group members, this camp represents a safe place for them to learn and have fun. I hope that whoever did this knows how much this hurts kids.”

A gofundme has been set up to help the group try and pay for some of the damages and it can be found here.
