PRINCE GEORGE – It was a packed Council Chambers for those in support of Ginter’s Field. And the group met with a measure of success.

The group came forward with a presentation to Council, speaking to the significance of the land to the community.

“It’s a point of pride for the community,” noted James Steidle, one of the organizers of the presentation and organizers of Ginter’s Green Forever. “It’s a hot spot for all kinds of critters.”

The presented a significant case against further development as they sought two things: the removal of the Massey Drive extension, which is part of the Official Community Plan, and to have the green belt officially designated as a city park.

Prior to the presentation, though, the group gathered was cautioned, the Official Community Plan will be undergoing a re-vamped next year.

“The show of force is duly noted,” added City Manager Walter Babicz.

However, Council wasn’t satisfied, with Councillor Brian Skakun putting forward a motion to have Administration return to the last meeting of this term, on October 3rd, to paint a picture of how those two requests happen.

“It’s an absolute gem in our community,” noted Councillor Kyle Sampson.

It solicited thundering applause from those in the gallery.
