Prince George Cougars visit former residential school site

PRINCE GEORGE– With Truth and reconciliation Day approaching the Prince George Cougars made a special trip out of town. It was Monday afternoon when the Prince George Cougars team bus rolled into the Lejac Residential School Site. Players and coaches stood around Residential School Survivor, Elder Clifford Quaw as he educated the team on what life was like at the school.

It’s something the team learned about last year, however, due to COVID restrictions the presentation was virtual. So when Quaw found out the team would be joining him at the site he was looking forward to it.

When the team was presented with the idea to plan a trip to the site, Director of Business Operations Taylor Dakers jumped on it. Dakers, a former WHL player, used to take trips to East Hastings with his teammates to learn about drugs and addiction. And while the situation is different he wants the players to remember there is more to life than just hockey.
