Critical infrastructure in danger due to battleship mountain wildfire

PRINCE GEORGE- As the battleship mountain wildfire grows, some critical infrastructure could be in danger.

The wildfire just outside the community of Hudson hope continues to be an issue burning what the B.C. Wildfire Service says are more than twenty-nine thousand hectares.

“We are seeing some aggressive fire behaviour in the South and the west flank, and we’re expecting that to continue over the coming days with the forecasted conditions in the region has remained very dry,” said Sarah Hall, an information officer with the B.C. wildfire service.

One Major Concern is the proximity of the fire to Key infrastructure.

“The fire is approximately four kilometres from the W.A.C. Bennett Dam and about eight kilometres from the district of Hudson,” said Hall.

The W.A.C Bennett and surrounding dams generate thirty-eight percent of B.C Hydro’s output yearly.

“B.C Hydro has well-established plans, obviously, to support the reliable supply of power to the province. Should the fire risk change to either the generation or the transmission system,” said Mike Kellett. ” At this time, no B.C. hydro infrastructure is impacted, and work is being conducted further to protect the B.C. hydro people, assets and infrastructure.”

The Battleship mountain wildfire is still classified as out of control.
