Wildfires will cause challenges for hunters

“Generally speaking, within the Prince George Fire Center, where we are seeing our increased activity is up in the peace region,” said Sharon Nickel, an information officer with BC Wildfire Service.

So the question is, Will these lingering wildfires affect those going to hunt?

“Yeah, it absolutely will,” said McArthur. “If you are out and you’re with, especially in areas where there is a lot of dry and fire concerns, make sure you’re paying attention.”

The BC Wildfire Service has some advice for those going into the woods.

“When you head out into the backcountry in terms of wildfires, it’s also just knowing that there are still Category two and Category three restrictions on in the Prince George Fire Center,” said Nickel.

It is recommended to take precautions for those using different vehicles for hunting as well.

If an off-road vehicle is responsible for starting a wildfire, the operator could face an administrative monetary penalty of up to $10,000, or a court fine of up to $1,000,000 and/or up to three years in jail.
