To Your Health: Flu Season

Sep 27, 2022 | 11:36 AM

PRINCE GEORGE — The first fall without lockdowns, mask mandates, and work from home since 2019.

That means the return of a more traditional cold and flu season this year. Whether it is the flu or covid one of the best things you can do to stay healthy according to doctors is to get vaccinated.

“With all the viruses circulating this year, it’s really important to get vaccinated for both influenza as well as COVID. The influenza vaccine will be available across the north starting roughly mid-October. It will start being offered in certain settings and should absolutely be available for the whole population, at least by November. All the dates are still being lined up and please check on the Northern Health website for the dates for flu clinics,” says Dr Rakel Kling.

Covid boosters for third and fourth doses are available to nearly everyone and flu vaccines are just a couple weeks away

“A really great source to get your influenza vaccine is your local pharmacy. Also, we know there is another booster of COVID that’s being offered right now. So it’s also really important to get your COVID booster in this upcoming season. The more we can do to reduce the chance of getting sick or reduce circulating the virus and just staying healthy, we should be taking all those opportunities,” said Dr. Kling

But there is one piece of advice that everyone should take from Covid-19 moving forward.

“A really great source to get your influenza vaccine is your local pharmacy. Also, we know there is another booster of COVID that’s being offered right now. So it’s also really important to get your COVID booster in this upcoming season. The more we can do to reduce the chance of getting sick or reduce circulating the virus and just staying healthy, we should be taking all those opportunities,” said Dr Kling.
