PRINCE GEORGE – Navratri is a Hindu festival celebrated every year around the world. Nearly ten years ago, a small local group from the Hindu community hosted the first Navaratri festival. This festival continues to grow roots in PG a decade later.

During autumn, millions of people around the world are known to gather, dance and worship the incarnation of Goddess Durga.

With more people immigrating from India, the local festival’s popularity has grown.

According to organizers, this event is one of the largest outside the lower mainland.

The event also helps the younger generation to learn more about their culture.

“So for us to put out an event like this teaches them our values, our traditions, and learn from it and take home that lesson. I am proud of who I am…It’s about culture. And like our ancestors talking about cultural roots are really important in our community, and we want our children to embrace that culture.” — Ammy Kaur
