PRINCE GEORGE — The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) has placed second in the most recent edition of Maclean’s magazine university rankings.

Out of 19 post-secondary institutions across Canada, UNBC placed second, with first place going to Mount Allison University in New Brunswick. This is the 19th consecutive year that UNBC has finished in the top five.

In a press release from the university, it states that UNBC “received high marks across many categories, including a tie for first in student-faculty radio and top three finishes in students who have national awards and total research dollars.”

UNBC President Dr. Geoff Payne says that “these rankings are the latest evidence that UNBC’s excellent academic programming and research culture are inspiring future leaders across northern B.C. and beyond.”

Every fall, Maclean’s university rankings are released and “rank Canadian universities in 12 categories related to research, student success and student services” with two surveys focusing on reputation and student satisfaction.
