One person dead following Dawson Creek shooting

DAWSON CREEK — The North District Major Crime Unit (NDMCU) has been deployed to a shooting in Dawson Creek that has left one man dead.

RCMP say the shooting occurred on Saturday.

“On October 9 at approximately 6 p.m., the Dawson Creek RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 97 near Arras Road in Dawson Creek,” says Sgt. Chris Manseau.

“Frontline officers attended the scene and located one man in a vehicle who was suffering from injuries consistent with a motor vehicle collision. The man succumbed to his injuries.”

He says investigators are currently in the area looking for witnesses, and collecting video or dash-cam footage. Investigators are working closely with partners to determine the motive in this incident.

NDMCU has taken over the investigation and is working closely in partnership with the Dawson Creek RCMP and the BC Coroners Service.

RCMP say they can expect to see an increase in police in the area for the next several days while the investigation continues.

Witnesses or anyone who was near the intersection of Highway 97 S and Arras Road, heading towards Dawson Creek between 5:30 p.m and 7 p.m. with dash-cam video is asked to call the RCMP at (250)784-3700.
