PRINCE GEORGE – The Community Health and Inclusion Coalition is a grassroots alliance of vocal advocates who have come together to improve access to information regarding the values of candidates in the upcoming election.

“These people that are talked about, dehumanized, in these platforms are talked about as if they’re people who don’t have a voice,” says Juls Budau with UNDU.

The topics of importance include reconciliation, harm reduction, sustainability, housing/homelessness and accessibility. The group has endorsed a slate of candidates, including Simon Yu for mayor, and James Steidle, Wesley Mitchell, Chris Stern, Colleen Mahoney and Cori Ramsay for Council.

“So we were looking for people who were based in reality,” says Budau. “Who didn’t have platforms around things they actually don’t have any control.”

Last week, the North Central Labour Council endorsed its own slate of candidates. Political Science instructor Chris Beach says the fact that a second organization, in this case, a coalition, has endorsed a set of candidates speaks to the significance of this election, especially with three Council seats up for grabs.

“Remember, there’s going to be a new mayor for sure,” says Political Science Instructor Chris Beach. “We’ve got long-term incumbents that arfen’t running again. So there’s going to be some fairly significant changes to this Council. ”

The Coalition will be focused on Poverty, Homelessness, and the Drug Poisoning Crisis and each candidate will be rated against those topics. And the results of the scorecards will be posted.

The Coalition is encouraging all eligible voters to head to the polls on Saturday with a clear picture of what our future Mayor and council will look like. .
