PRINCE GEORGE– With Soccer Season wrapping up, Canada West has announced the Award Winners for the 2022 Season.

Michael Henman has been named the 2022 Canada West Men’s Soccer Player of the Year after a phenomenal season with the UNBC Timberwolves. The fourth-year striker from Victoria, BC put up an incredible 19 goals this year, matching the Canada West record for most in a single season. It’s something he still can’t believe he won, but he never doubted his ability to win the award.

However, he wasn’t the only one to walk away with a Major award.

UNBC’s Steve Simonson has been named the 2022 Coach of the Year as well. Simonson helped transform a Timberwolves team that won 2 games last year into a conference contender tying and getting a record high 8 wins this year finishing with an 8-5-3 record, good for third in the Pacific Division. However, Simonson says he couldn’t have done this without help from the school and his players.

Simonson helped his team capture the UNBC record for wins, goals scored, and points. He fixed the ship despite a slew of injuries throughout the season, creating a culture of passion and determination for his squad.

Both Henman and Simonson will be returning to the team next year, looking to build on one of the most historic seasons in UNBC Men’s Soccer History.
