PRINCE GEORGE – “We want to roll up the red tape and roll out the red carpet.”

The words as part of newly-sworn Mayor Simon Yu during his inaugural speech during the swearing in ceremony last night, in Council Chambers packed with family and friends of the City’s new group for the next four years.

Mayor Yu also made history with his inauguration, being the first, first-generation Canadian Asian to be a mayor in British Columbia’s history.

He noted coming to Prince George with “two suitcases fifty years ago” to a city that has embraced him over those years.

In his address, Mayor Yu committed to “being a relentless advocate for the City of Prince George,” and in making the city “exciting” for business investment.

In each of their individual speeches after swearing the Oath of Office, each candidate thanked family for their support, making it all possible.

Following the ceremony, the new Council got down to business, adopting the Council agenda, which was amended to move the scheduled November 21st meeting to November 28th, approved the Acting Mayor schedule and elected Councillors Cori Ramsay, Kyle Sampson and Brian Skakun to represent the City at the Board table for the Regional District of Fraser Fort George.
