PRINCE GEORGE — November is radon awareness month and everyone is being reminded to refresh their knowledge on what radon gas is.

Radon gas is something that you may never have heard of before, but radon gas is something that is invisible, tasteless and odourless, which makes it impossible to detect by yourself. However, high levels of radon concentration have been found in Prince George.

Health Canada recommends that your home be mitigated if you detect radon concentrations greater than 200 becquerels per cubic metre (Bq/m3).

With radon being a silent and invisible gas, testing for it, makes it all the more important to test for it, as radon is a harmful gas.

The Canadian Lung Association is offering grants to low and medium income households of up to $1000 to install a radon mitigation system in their home. The association will also provide grants to households that have been affected by lung cancer, as radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer in Canada.
