PRINCE GEORGE- No matter if you are a holiday lover or a humbug, it’s hard to deny that this weekend is the official start of the festive season.

“Well, for us, and I think every other retailer in the world, Black Friday is their big kickoff for the holiday Christmas shopping season,” said David Shuvera, the general manager of Canadian Tire in Prince George.

With incredible deals all across the city, the Black Friday weekend including Cyber Monday is circled on the local business calendars every year.

“Very often over the last few years, it’s been our busiest shopping day of the year,” said Shuvera.

While the COVID-19 Pandemic impacted the last two holiday shopping seasons, early signs show that people are headed back into the stores.

“I would say definitely from this morning’s evidence, we had people lined up in front of the store right bright and early,” said Shuvera.

It wasn’t just the pandemic that stalled Black Friday. Supply chain issues caused serious havoc last year, A problem that hasn’t been completely fixed yet but is getting better.

“We do still have some supply chain challenges. So we see stores even putting out notices that say, when this is gone, it is gone. We aren’t getting any more of this before Christmas,” said Todd Corrigall, the CEO of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce.
