Prince George Ukrainian community prepares for Holodomor Memorial Day
PRINCE GEORGE -The Holodomor, is recognized by 16 countries worldwide, including Canada, as a genocide carried out by the Soviet regime. Father Andreii Chornenkyl of St George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church says understanding what happened during the Holodomor, is key to understanding the modern day conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

On Friday afternoon, Ukrainians, and those standing in solidarily with them, will gather at the church on Vanier Drive, to pay their respects to the victims with a candlelight vigil, hear the first hand accounts of survivors from their descendants, and celebrate the arrival of an new influx of Ukrainians who have found safe haven here in Canada from the devastation currently gripping their home country.
