PRINCE GEORGE- Volunteers from BC Transplant were at the University Hospital of Northern BC today, giving back to the staff of the operating room with Operation Popcorn.

“It’s a way of thanking the staff in the hospital for all they do for people that are having problems,” said Joyce Grantham, a volunteer with BC transplant.

Buckets and boxes were being handed out Monday morning. A tradition that is now in year 31.

“The hospital staff needs to be shown more appreciation for everything they do,” said Grantham.

Joyce Grantham received a heart transplant nearly 23 years ago and is one of the large numbers of people impacted by BC Transplant.

There are many others with stories as well involving loved ones who have donated.

“My son was an organ donor. He lost his life in 2018. He donated four organs,” said Rick Woodford, who is a volunteer with BC Transplant.

Woodford, Grantham and all the volunteers who attended operation popcorn urge those who haven’t, to register to be an organ donor.
