RSV still among cases of illness among children in BC, but there are signs of stabilizing
PRINCE GEORGE — In light of the recent spike in influenza cases among children, the illness RSV is also affecting kids and vulnerable populations.
The current cold and flu season has hit many people hard so far, but children and vulnerable populations like the elderly can be hit especially hard. While influenza is currently top of mind for many, the respiratory illness RSV can also pose a threat to the vulnerable, particularly children.
Cases of RSV are spiking across the country from Ontario to Saskatchewan and everywhere in between, but the surge in illness does show signs of stabilizing.in BC. Dr. Jong Kim, chief medical health officer for Northern Health says that while there has been an increase in hospitalizations province and region wide, it is not due to RSV, but influenza.
