Duchess Park Secondary School’s Condor Classic Basketball Tournament returns for 2022

PRINCE GEORGE- For more than 30 years, Louise Holmes has been at the helm of Duchess Park Secondary School’s annual Condor Classic Basketball tournament. She’s been courtside and in the admin chair, supporting generations of kids as they find their feet on the court. Thanks to her tireless work, the Condor Classic is back in full force for another year, and it’s the strongest showing since COVID-19 shut it down back in 2020.

The work’s Louise has done for DPSS has been invaluable for student moral, and the athletic programming she’s had a hand in creating is top notch; DPSS is known for it’s hard won reputation as the reigning AAA Basketball champions in the city. To Louise Holmes, thats all part of a days work, but Vice Principal Dylan Clifford highlighted how she’s consistently gone above and beyond in her service to kids, and to school sports, for generations.

The long history of sportsmanship and mentorship at DPSS has translated into a serious passion for sports, and some amazing team chemistry on both the boy’s and girl’s teams. For the second year in a row now, The Duchess Park Junior girls basketball team has been punching far above their weight class, performing at a high enough level to earn their shot in the senior girls AAA Level Basketball tournament, where they’ve been mopping the floor with the competition, something DPSS grade 9 student Emily Clarke was excited to share, and as for the senior boy’s team; Grade 11 student Tray Barths, also spoke about the chemistry and comradery on his team as the key to their success against some major rivals in the city.
