Parents hopeful new SD57 bus strategy will meet needs

PRINCE GEORGE – A new year, and a new bussing strategy for School District 57.

Months of frustration from parents led to SD57 taking action to find a solution and get students to school. The first half of the 2022/23 school year saw many left waiting for school busses that never came, or had their routes cancelled altogether.

“Parents have been extremely frustrated without having consistent services to get their kids to school,” said Laura Weller, Chair of the SD57 District Parent Advisory Council. “I cannot even imagine having that level of inconsistency to deal with, getting kids to school is our number one priority.”

First Student blamed driver shortages for the company’s inability to fill routes, a problem that dragged on for months. Several parents in rural areas around our region went as far as seeking compensation for the missed services.

This agreement between Diversified and First Student is now in place until June 2024.

Parents are asked to check their emails for communication from the bussing companies.
