PRINCE GEORGE– Prince George Spruce Kings goaltender Jordan Fairlie has had a phenomenal season on the ice. However, the 20-year-old from Fort St.John is looking to also make a massive impact off the ice announcing a very special campaign supporting Mental Health initiatives.

Earlier in the season Fairlie became an ambassador for Lift the Mask, a mental health initiative put on by The Goalie Guild. The Goalie Guild is a non-profit foundation dedicated to the advancement of hockey goaltenders and the goaltending craft. And with it being his final year in the BCHL, Fairlie decided this was a great time to launch his own campaign.

“I’ve wanted to do something like this for a while now, but I think this year, it’s my last year. I’ve been here for three years, kind of giving back to the community of PG. I know they’ve done a lot for me and they’ve been really supportive of me here, so I’m happy to be able to do something back for them.” – Jordan Fairlie, Launched “Lift the Mask on Mental Health” campaign

The goalie from Fort St.John has set a goal of raising $20,000 by the end of the BCHL regular season. A goal he is hoping to achieve with the help of Northern BC.

“I think $20,000 is pretty achievable. I know people here are so far really supportive of the campaign so we’ve got about two months. I think it’s an achievable goal for sure.”

When Fairlie told Communications Director Ethan Ready about his idea, he was immediately on board. From there the two worked on the campaign during road trips and after practices until launching it this past weekend. Ready was glad he could help the 20-year-old, with his campaign, and knows that it’s a perfect example of what type of player Fairlie is.

“He’s an incredibly nice kid. He’s awesome to chat with outside of hockey. He’s extremely down to earth. To be honest, I can’t say I was surprised when he came to me about this campaign. It’s something I hope the community realizes he’s got so much going for him and for him to be wanting to make an impact like this is huge.” – Ethan Ready, Director of Communications, Prince George Spruce Kings

Another partner joining to ensure Lift the Mask on Mental Health is a success is the Canadian Mental health Association. With all funds raised going towards the programming of Fairlie’s choice.

“There’s an opportunity for CMHA and Jordan to get together as the campaign rolls along to talk about where we might situate those funds. And of course for us at CMHA, we really believe that young people need to be seen and they need to be heard. And so his input will be really valuable to us in terms of where it is that we invest those dollars.” – Sarah Lloyd, Executive Director, CMHA Northern BC

Donations are being accepted from now until the end of the Spruce Kings regular season on March 25. You can donate online by heading to the Spruce Kings Website or the Canadian Mental Health Website with more options to donate coming later on during the campaign.
