Diving reaches new heights in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE – With the help of Engage Sport North and BC Diving, Prince George is now home to the province’s newest Diving Club, which will be based at the Aquatic Centre.

If everything goes to plan, the diving platform will be filled with competitive divers from around the province. Prince George has been without a diving club for over ten years, and Tim Joyce is taking the lead and coaching the city’s newest diving club.

The diving club will offer introductory and competitive diving opportunities for all ages. The Aquatic Centre is a perfect venue for the club as it’s equipped with Olympic-level diving boards.

The diving club’s program started at the end of January, and registration reached capacity, but if you’d like to sign up, not worry, as there are plans in the works for more sessions in the spring.

According to coach Joyce, physical fitness is a large part of diving, and there is a mental component that helps with mental focus.

“Diving offers a lot of benefits for kids and adults. There’s a physical component and a focus component, which is great for your mental health. And also, there’s a lot of core involvement with it. It’s a great sport to get into.”
