Flair good for YXS

PRINCE GEORGE – Flair Air has been part of the YXS family for some time, with a non-stop flight to Tucson. And the relationship has been great.

“We’re really pleased with the operational performance that Flair has done for us here this year in what’s been some pretty tough operating conditions,” says Gordon Duke, President & CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority. “They have operated that flight pretty close to on time the whole season. I know there was one cancellation, which is pretty good when you consider the conditions that have been going on in Canada.”

Those conditions Duke is referencing were top news around the holiday season when flights were delayed for days and outright cancelled due to a number of factors. So how open is Flair Air to relocating its destination hub to somewhere other than Vancouver.?

“Currently we are serving Prince George with a non-stop sun destination to Tucson, Arizona,’ says Garth Lund, Flair Air’s Chief Commercial Officer. “Not into the domestic market at this point. Certainly some would consider into the future.”

Today’s announcement of additional flights includes Calgary to Phoenix and Calgary to Las Vegas. During today’s news conference cited Flair’s ability to provide connectivity, something that is critical to a region like this. Well, for the average traveller in and out of Prince George, it’s really important to have just those options that are available,” says Duke.

“And we look at Vancouver as having tremendous options out of there as far as getting to other destinations. Calgary out of here is growing and we look forward to expanding the relationship with Flair or any of the other low cost carriers that just give more options to the traveling public here in Prince George.”

The Flair Air flight to Tuscon was the most recent addition to YXS’s repertoire of flights and while today’s announcement didn’t include any new local flights, Duke has a wish list for the airport.

“We have an awesome wish list. We would like to see a transcontinental flight to go to Calgary, and we would like to see expanded offerings to the leisure market. You know, the opportunity to for Puerto Vallarta, for Palm Springs, for Vegas, there’s all kinds of good leisure markets.”

He says the airport authority would love to see the addition of, albeit seasonal flight to continental Europe.
