Valemount seeking ‘Strongest Town’ title
PRINCE GEORGE – Valemount is the only Canadian municipality left in the international race for the ‘Strongest Town’ title.
The US-based competition compares and rewards municipalities for their practices and policy. The main goal is to highlight towns and cities that are doing the hard work of becoming stronger, putting in place the processes, systems, and commitments that build enduring resilience and long-term prosperity.
“Valemount’s going to be the winner because in the last couple of years, we’ve been able to adopt a fairly progressive official community plan,” said Mayor Owen Torgerson. “We’ve completely revamped our zoning bylaws to be based on people looking particularly at infill opportunities and we’re embarking on an active transportation master plan.”
Torgerson mentioned the mountain biking in the Canoe Valley as one of the big difference makers as well.
