Rock truck driver arrested following ‘rampage’ allege RCMP

SMITHERS — A man has been arrested after police allege he went on a “rampage” Sunday night in Smithers.

Police responded to a report just before 9 p.m. that night “of possible impaired operation of a rock truck.”

“Police located the suspect vehicle which allegedly attempted to collide with a police vehicle. Due to the escalation of potential grievous harm to police as a result, shots were fired by police. Luckily, nobody was injured and police were able to stop the suspect,” reads an RCMP release.

RCMP say the suspect was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and is under investigation for further criminal offences.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information, including dash cam or other video footage is asked to contact the Smithers RCMP at (250)847-3233.
