WestJet, pilots reach last-minute deal to avoid a strike

CALGARY — WestJet and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) have announced a tentative agreement at the 11th hour to avoid a strike, early this morning.

Alexis von Hoensbroech, WestJet Group Chief Executive Officer, says that “The WestJet Group is pleased to have reached a tentative agreement that is industry-leading within Canada and recognizes the important contributions of our valued pilots by providing meaningful improvements to job security and scope, working conditions and wages.”

A statement from the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) says that union leaders voted to approve and agreement in principle, with a membership vote to start in the coming days.
