Severe thunderstorm warnings issued for 100 Mile and North Thompson regions
KAMLOOPS — A pair of severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect for the 100 Mile and North Thompson regions.
Environment Canada issued the warnings shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday (May 21), saying a severe thunderstorm is 20 kilometres northwest of Barriere and is moving northeast at 25 km/h. Meanwhile, a thunderstorm nearly 40 kilometres southeast of 100 Mile House is moving northeast at 25 km/h and crossing Highway 24.
Environment Canada issues severe thunderstorm warnings when storms are likely to cause large hail, damaging winds, or torrential rainfall.
The weather agency warns that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads, while large hail can damage property and cause injury.
