Children’s book comes to life on stage

PRINCE GEORGE – Over the last forty years, Judy Russell has continued to be centre stage in creating local performances. Recently, she has taken a children’s book by one of her former dancers and adapted it to a performance.

Judy Russell, surrounded by dancers, experiences this almost every day of the week. Children’s Book, author Amy Beeman, was once like many of these young dancers eagerly waiting for her instruction on their next move.

“She decided to write this amazing book called Unwrap Your Dreams. And I was super excited about it. So I bought several of them for my grandchildren. “

Russell read the book by Beeman to her grandchildren. From there, those nighttime readings inspired her to adapt the book into a performance.

Beeman wrote the book based on her son’s experiences with nightmares as a way for him to change his thoughts on dreams.

Russell said adapting the book, filled with pictures and thoughts, to a performance made bringing it to the stage for almost 120 dancers easier.

Amy Beeman lives in the lower mainland and will be in Prince George for this weekend’s performance.

The ballet performance, where a children’s book becomes a stage performance, starts at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, at Vanier Hall.
