Bitcoin Mining factory thrives quietly on Prince George outskirts, employs local talent
PRINCE GEORGE – A newly built factory sits quietly on the outskirts of downtown. It is hard to notice as it generates no smoke. Early last year, a Bitcoin mining factory opened, employing over twenty people, 90 per cent of whom are longtime residents.
On the other side of this fence are thousands of computers processing a complex math puzzle to create a virtual currency. This facility is one of three data centres for Iris Energy in the province.
“ We’re Bitcoin miners. We have three buildings behind us. We use 50 megawatts worth of renewable energy hydroelectricity, and we’re based in the beautiful Prince George.”
