International Overdose Awareness Day brings important conversations and education to PG

PRINCE GEORGE – Dozens of people gathered at Veterans Plaza today to bring awareness and have conversations about International Overdose Awareness Day including Sacha Molby.

“We’re here to bring awareness to this issue. I personally also wanted to be here to let people know about our Healing Hearts support group, which is a part of Moms Stop the Harm. That’s for parents or loved ones or anyone siblings who’ve lost someone to overdose.”

Making sure there are resources and giving people who are struggling the chance to reach out to receive help is a very important part moving forward.

“My son struggled with substances from an early age. There was no recognition of the poisonous toxic supply back in 2017. He passed away on January 6, the very early days of 2018, when there was no mental health support. There was no awareness of the toxic drug supply. There are more resources now through groups like Moms Stop the Harm, which I belong to, that really promote the awareness of a safer supply, mental health awareness, and knowing the dangers of the toxic drug supply.”

In the first five months of this year over a thousand people in B.C. were lost to poisoned drugs, 45 of those death were in Prince George.
