Charge North moves closer to reality

PRINCE GEORGE – Council and the Board for the Regional District of Fraser Fort George have both approved a request for support from the Community Energy Association as it moves ahead with its Charge North project. The Association is seeking funding from the Province to install 120 Level 2 electric car charging stations along Highway 97 and Highway 16, as well as 30 rapid charge stations.

“The Charge North project, as they’ve called it, has a few different steps,” explains John Kelly, the City’s Supervisor of Energy, Environment and Sustainability. “Starting off with a detailed plan about where the stations should be along the highway. Step Two would be community-focused Level 2, which is what we’re seeing right now with this grant application.”

The cost of each charging station to install and maintain is $18,000 with the Province committing to cover 73% of the bill.
