Prince George Spruce Kings take 5-4 thriller to kick off 2023 BCHL Showcase

PRINCE GEORGE — It was Northern BC showing up to Seattle Wednesday afternoon as Prince George’s Scott Cousins led the Spruce Kings to a 5-4 victory over the Powell River Kings.

The Spruce Kings got off to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st period with goals from Lucas Veilleux and Scott Cousins.

Powell River responded with a pair of their own in the 2nd period including a shorthanded marker. Kazumo Sasaki would give the Spruce Kings the lead less than a minute later to make it 3-2. Before Powell River would get a powerplay marker to close out the 2nd period. 3-3 heading to the final frame.

In that 3rd period, it was Linden Makow tying the game up after Powell River struck early on. Before Scott Cousins scored with just under 3 minutes to go on the powerplay to lead the Spruce Kings to victory.
