PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society introduced a new manual this summer to help guide people in developing a health plan if they become incapable of making their own decisions.

The Good to Go Planning Kit leads people through questions and checkboxes, asking what is important to them when they die.

“ So there’s lots of different things to consider throughout the transition of your life if you’re a new parent. You know, have you considered what would happen to your children if you die tomorrow?”

Donna Flood

Executive Director, Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society

Donna Flood suggests completing the Good to Go Planning Kit while you are well, not when you are sick, and the conversation can become difficult.

Having your beliefs, values and wishes written down before you die makes your death less stressful for those you leave behind.

“Who do we want in the room with us? Do we want to be alone? What are we going to do with our pets?… So it’s not just the legalities and the sort of tick the boxes.“

Denise Torgerson

Having the end-of-life plan in place also gives your medical team some direction.

The Good to Go manual is available at the Prince George Hospice House to everyone over 19.
