RCMP win 2nd annual Sirens Cup

PRINCE GEORGE – A success is an understatement. This year’s Sirens Cup not only brought in a big crowd but also had fans on the edge of their seats.

The firefighters came out strong like last year, but it was short-lived as the RCMP followed it up with some successful shots. After a 3-3 deadlock with no time left, it went to a shootout where both goalies had a stellar performance, but the firefighters let one sneak by giving the RCMP the win for the second annual cup.

The outcome couldn’t have been better for the RCMP as they needed to secure this win this year, and being able to do it in front of friends and family was the cherry on top.

“I think there’s a lot of buy-in when you get two groups of first responders together. We’re always in the media and this is a nice way for people to see us as we are, as human beings, relatable characters. The tension, too, doesn’t hurt. A rivalry between the two organizations, that definitely helped to bring in some crowd.”

– CPL. Jennifer Cooper, Prince George RCMP

The firefighters battled for the whole 60 minutes and there aren’t any hard feelings because of the loss, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t sting a little bit.

“Our guys fought right to the end. It was a terrific game for both teams. It was a really phenomenal effort to see. It was great to see. The atmosphere in the building was electric. You never want to lose, but it was a really exciting game. It’s great to be a part of.”

– Jason Geddes, Prince George Firefighters Charitable Society

The money raised from the event went to two charities, Cops for Cancer Tour de North and Prince George Firefighters Charitable Society.
