Accident kills semi driver on Highway 97 north

CHETWYND — One person is dead after a semi went down an embankment near Chetwynd Saturday morning.

North District RCMP say it happened at 7:45 a.m. on Highway 97 and the Silver Sands Forest Service Road.

The crash claimed the life of the driver. A cause hasn’t been determined though Mounties say road conditions were icy and slippery at the time.

Later Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. RCMP also responded to a semi in the ditch at Highway 97 just north of Power King Road. The driver was uninjured in that accident.
