Finding the right wax. Wax on . . . Wax off
PRINCE GEORGE – Wax on…wax off. That’s what Ian Daffern does daily for Team Canada. Every day, every athlete’s skis need to be taken care of, and Daffern is the go-to guy for making sure they’re ready to go.
The technicians figure out what the best wax is for the condition of the course, similar to how a caddy in golf chooses the best club to use, depending on the circumstances. And according to Daffern, there are a lot of waxes to choose from.
” What we do is we test a lot of different types of waxes. So we’ll go out and probably test anywhere from 10 to 15, maybe even 20 different types of waxes every morning before the race. And we’ll choose the best wax for the day.”
