University hill fire burns field and an encampment structure

PRINCE GEORGE—Prince George Fire Rescue responded to an outbuilding fire on university hill at 2:41 p.m. on Tuesday.

Smoke was visible from the downtown area. Three halls were dispatched but could not reach the source of the smoke. Shortly after firefighters attacked on foot using a side by side.

The source of the fire was located at an encampment between the road and the university. one structure was destroyed and a patch of field about 150 square meters was on fire . The crews were able to contain the fire from spreading using shovels and rakes. No injuries to report from the fire.

Crews were on scene for three hours to ensure the fire was completely out.
