FORT NELSON — Good news on the wildfire front in the Peace region.

The BC Wildfire Service has confirmed that the Parker Lake wildfire is now classified as “under control,” allowing the Wildfire Service to lift the evacuation alert Fort Nelson residents had been under.

The 12,338 hectare blaze forced the evacuation of the town of Fort Nelson last month, forcing thousands to leave their homes. Hundreds of those residents found refuge in Prince George.

When a fire is classified as under control, the BC Wildfire Service says it means “that it is not projected to grow beyond its current perimeter.”
