Do you have good gym etiquette?

PRINCE GEORGE—September is fast approaching and as summer begins to fade more people begin using indoor gym facilities. When using those facilities it’s important to care for the equipment to ensure that you aren’t ruining the experience for others. One important piece of gym etiquette is putting away equipment because some people might not be able to move around the same amount of weight as you.

Another important rule of thumb is to not slam your weights down after a set as you could damage the equipment.

“You can do it on the squat racks, it’s totally fine,” says Sydney Bartlett, the CSR Team Lead at the Northern Sports Centre. “But if you’re doing it in other areas of the gym, it actually causes the weights on the machines to start to kind of wear and tear.”

Sydney adds that it could also affect your workout as you might be lifting more weight than you should which could lead to you tearing a muscle.

It’s also important to clean off before and after you use any equipment to ensure you aren’t spreading any germs.
