Timberwolves mens soccer team open home campaign with Vikes in town

PRINCE GEORGE— Following a tough opening weekend for the Timberwolves, after dropping both games in Fraser Valley against the Cascades, they’re back at Masich Place Stadium Tonight against UVic.

Despite the 0-2 start to their 2024 campaign, UNBC Head Coach Steve Simonson isn’t worried about his teams motivation.

“It’s not going to be hard to be up for the game. We’re playing a good team in UVic who we know had a great season last year and they’re coming off a great weekend so we know it’ll be a challenge.”

The Vikes are coming off a trip to the Canada West semifinals last year and a 2-0 start in the new season. On the other side, the Timberwolves are off to a fresh start this season with 11 rookies.

“It’s really important, especially as a young team, to take what we can even from losses and then build on that.” Said fourth year senior Connor Lewis. “We’re trying to keep morale up, ignoring the scoreline and seeing what we can do to build on it so that we can have a positive home opener.”

Rookies on the team will be in for a treat tonight and throughout their six-game home stand with the incredible fan support.

“We absolutely adore playing at Masich and in front of our community. It’s a pretty special thing, the fans that we get out to our games.”

Not only will the Timberwolves be playing their home opener tonight, fans will also have the chance to get in for free. It’s UNBC’s SoccerFest, which means any fans that show up in a jersey of any sport or team receive complimentary entry to the match.
