Vehicle fire closes Highway 97 south of Quesnel

QUESNEL — Update: The highway has reopened to single-lane alternating traffic.

Earlier: Motorists beware.

A semi truck fire has closed Highway 97 in both directions 45 kilometres south of Quesnel at Melville Road.

RCMP say the semi was hauling pulp and paper Friday morning when the driver noticed flames. No one was injured and the fire is being blamed on mechanical issues.

Flaggers are on scene. No word yet when the highway will reopen.
