PRINCE GEORGE— The Biathlon Canada Youth/Junior World Championship Trials wrapped up on Tuesday (Jan. 7) at the Otway Nordic Centre. The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club finished hosting another major national event with a local product stealing the show.

20-year-old Moira Green, won all three of her races to defend her junior women’s title, culminating with a comeback win in the mass start on Tuesday (Jan. 7).

“It was a really tough race. I think last race is always pretty hard and it sometimes feels like a lot comes down to it. I was pretty nervous coming into it and I felt pretty good skiing, so that’s always nice after three days racing,” said Green after crossing the finish line in her final race of the competition.

After her terrific showing, the Prince George native qualified to race for Team Canada between February 24-March 5 at the world championships in Oestersund, Sweden

This event also gave all the Prince George athletes competing an opportunity to race on their local course.

“It’s awesome. I really love being able to race at home because it also means that my family and friends can come out and watch,” said UNBC varsity team biathlete, Payton Sinclair.

While it’s great for local athletes and organizers to host big events like this one, there’s no surprise why they keep getting chosen by Biathlon Canada.

“We’re really happy with how it went this year. Great weather, great snow and well run and well organized. I’m sure the athletes have all appreciated how smoothly it’s run. We really like coming here to Prince George. They put on a great event and thanks to all the spectators who come out to take it in and see some high level racing,” said Clayton Whitman, the Sport Development Director at Biathlon Canada.
