VANDERHOOF — Mounties continue to investigate the discovery of several suspicious packages in Vanderhoof.

The packages were located on February 28, 2025 at the local post office. The envelopes were found to contain a substance that was later confirmed to be non-toxic, as well as threatening statements targeting specific school district employees. The statements referred to BC’s Expect Respect & a Safe Education (ERASE) policy but were specifically directed towards the diversity and inclusion guidelines.

“While the substance was found to be non-toxic, the threats within the suspicious packages are being treated seriously”, said Corporal Madonna Saunderson of the BC RCMP. “Specific employees being targeted for following a provincial policy that promotes a culture of inclusion and safety for all children is unconscionable.”

The North District General Investigations Section has taken conduct of the investigation and is looking for any information that could help identify a suspect.
