Nordic athletes no longer have to choose between books or biathlon
PRINCE GEORGE – After nearly a decade in the making, the collaboration between UNBC and the Nordic Ski Club is coming to life. This upcoming ski season, a group of dedicated athletes from UNBC is set to make significant strides in the cross-country and biathlon varsity club, thanks to a new partnership with the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club.
Around the province, many young Nordic skiers commit to year-round training with a focus on competing on the international stage. To support their ambitions, they now have the chance to train at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club, conveniently located just a twenty-minute drive away from the University.
“ In the past, athletes who had skied and trained through high school and loved their sport often had to make a decision once they graduated from high school, whether they wanted to either commit to skiing or to university. It was one or the other. There weren’t really a lot of options for them to be able to combine the two, whether they just wanted to keep skiing because they loved it, or whether they had Olympic aspirations but still wanted to go to school.”
