PRINCE GEORGE – A world cannabis tourism day webinar summit will be taking place on September 27, bringing more than a dozen countries to discuss the future of cannabis tourism and opportunities to grow and expand the industry.

Hosted by the Canadian Cannabis Tourism Alliance, the Cannabis and Hemp Global Travel Network, and KGLTV, this free to attend summit will bring policymakers, growers, event organizers, and more. It is taking place from 12:00 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. EST.

“Tourism is one of the most powerful tools for bringing people together. With cannabis emerging as a driver of travel, hospitality, and wellness experiences, the time has come to dedicate a day that acknowledges and elevates its role in global tourism. From cultivation tours and infused dining to wellness retreats, spas, cultural festivals, and educational journeys, cannabis-related travel is already transforming how people explore and connect,” a press release reads.

This summit is welcome news for Prince George and the local businesses involved in the cannabis scene, as Nadine Furnell, owner of Mama Deen’s Enhanced Experiences, says growing the cannabis tourism industry is in the best interest of the entire city and province.

“It needs to be talked about and celebrated so that the industry can grow. There is so much more to cannabis than just recreational cannabis, and that’s the main push for events like this is, to break that stigma and recognize cannabis as an industry globally,” Furnell said.

Like all topics involving tourism, Furnell emphasized that growing cannabis tourism doesn’t just benefit those in the cannabis sphere, it can also positively impact all surrounding businesses. Whether it’s hotels, restaurants, shops, or more, having people travel to B.C. for cannabis can boost all aspects of a local economy.

“Cannabis tourism as an industry is growing. There’s hotels now that are consumption friendly, there’s wellness retreats. Globall, there’s a lot of things going on with respect to the industry,” Furnell said.
