Kodiaks pushing towards clinching first playoff spot

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Kodiaks head into this weekend matchup against the Kamloops Broncos winless in their last two games. The Kodiaks are knocking on the playoff door and a win this weekend against the winless Broncos will secure the franchise’s first ever trip to the postseason. But this is easier said then done as the Broncos are looking for that elusive first win and the forecast for Saturday’s game is rainy and a wet field. Kodiaks Quarterback Sawyer Thiessen says with the conditions expected to be less then optimal the game will be played in the trenches.

“With weather conditions like tomorrow it puts a big emphasis on the trenches. The O And D-line, being able to block up front and control that neutral zone, that plays a big part in it. We’ll do our best to keep two hands on the football but at the same time moving our feet forward and fighting for every yard we can get because with the rain, that usually means a field position battle. We’re playing a team that’s coming in here trying to scratch their way to their first W of the season. They’re going to come out and give us everything they got and, we just have to weather the storm to start off, play our game and stick to the script. If we do that we should come out with a win and clinch a playoff spot.” said Thiessen.

The matchup Saturday has all the making of a get right game but in sports sometimes those are the hardest games. The Kodiaks are facing a pressure they have never felt before with a chance to clinch a playoff spot in front of their home crowd. Coach Jamie Boreham says that the players must work for one another and play a clean game and if the team can do that then they may be celebrating come Saturday night.

“We have to get back on track playing a good football game. We have to figure how to play four quarters of football. It’s our last home game of the year and it’s our national truth reconciliation game so this is big for our community and big for a football team. We got to focus on ourselves, getting our stuff right and get good things rolling with playoffs on the on the horizon. We have to win some games to get in. We need a full game where of all three phases of football are playing, and working together to help each other.” said Boreham.

The Prince George Kodiaks host the Kamloops Broncos at 6pm Saturday at Masich Place Stadium.
