Timberwolves fall to TRU WolfPack to conclude first half of Canada West basketball season

KAMLOOPS — A tough end to the first half of the Canada West season for the UNBC Timberwolves basketball teams.

The UNBC men fell 90-69 to the TRU WolfPack in Kamloops Friday (Dec. 5) night.

Justin Sunga led the way for UNBC with a 13 points, while Chris Ainsley added 12. The trip of Danilo Gonzalez, Tony Kibonge and Cairo Wells added eight points each.

The UNBC men have lost eight in a row to sit 2-10 on the season. They’re in last place in the Canada West Pacific Division, one win behind the 3-9 UBCO Heat.

The UNBC women also dropped a 74-50 decision to the WolfPack in Kamloops.

Second-year guard Claire Huang poured in a team and career-high 16 points to go along with three assists and three rebounds. Hazel Phillips finished with 11 points while Viktoriia Filatova added 10 more.

Avin Jahangiri led UNBC with a team-high 10 rebounds.

UNBC had lost four in a row and they’re also in the basement of the Canada West Pacific Division with a 1-11 record.

The Timberwolves return to action on Jan. 15, 2026 against the UBC Thunderbirds at the Northern Sport Centre. The women play at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men at 8:00 p.m.
