Freezing rain warning issued for Prince George-area, snowfall warning remains for Williston, Pine Pass

PRINCE GEORGE — Environment Canada has replaced a snowfall warning for the Prince George area with a freezing rain warning.

The weather agency says it has moderate confidence in its yellow-level warning that was issued Saturday (Dec. 13) morning. It is calling for patchy freezing rain in Prince George, McGregor and along the Highway 16 corridor.

“A frontal system will move through the region today, bringing a mix of snow and freezing rain, starting this evening,” Environment Canada said. “This may result in slippery and hazardous conditions, particularly on untreated surfaces.”

“The freezing rain is expected to ease overnight into Sunday morning. Roads and walkways may become icy and slippery.”

The weather agency had previously been calling for between 10 to 15 cm of snow to fall in the Prince George, Stuart – Nechako, Williston, and Pine Pass areas Saturday. That yellow-level warning remains in place for the Williston and Pine Pass area.

“Snow will ease later this afternoon, and the heaviest snowfall is forecast for Pine Pass,” the snowfall warning said. “Several more pulses of precipitation are on their way tonight and Sunday. Additional snowfall amounts are possible and there is an increasing risk of freezing rain.”
